No, it's not a private ceremony; my council does citizenship ceremony every week. The fee for private ceremony varies depending on the council.

Approvals seems to have slowed down since last week. Especially November and December.

update on my application;
Aplied 7/01/14
Approval received 11/3/14
Ceremony: TBC
Thanks for everyone who posted here - by the way i had 3 points on my driving licences for speeding offence and had a visa refused before (2006) for allegedly using fake bank statements but did not declare all this in my application. I didnt think it was worthwhile defedning myself against teh alleged fake statements before i never hada hearing or an opportunity to defend myself so since itw as in their records it was up to them to decide if i was of good character deservinga British citizenship or not....i am happy they did!!!
All the best to those still waiting.

Hi Folks
Here is my guess about delay in processing pre and post 3rd Nov application.
1) Case worker obtain data which then input into the system. Then depending on criteria fed to the system, computer decides Yes/No, and generates a letter.
2) Since the criteria change there has been system update to deal the applications with new criteria.
3) During the system update HO had limited ability to deal with post October application, this is the reason that there was delay in fee deduction and delay in sending out acknowledgement letter for Nov-Dec applicants.
4) I am sure that there is paperless environment therefore, your applications are scanned onto system and then system generates reference number and acknowledgement letter.
5) There are now limited systems available to deal with pre October applications.
6) I believe that some November and December applications were allocated to case workers who were/are still tied up to old system therefore until 100% system update, there will be glitch in the process. Which i believe will take 6 months from the new guidelines was enforced.
7) Once caseworker is assigned randomly it cannot be transferred possibly to another case worker for transparency issues and case worker cannot pick and choose to prevent caseworker giving favour to anyone.
This is possible reason why December and January application are being processed and some applicants from Oct, Nov and Dec are still waiting.

Finally got my approval today.
Eligibility criteria: 5yrs+1yr ILR
Language criteria met: UK degree
Method of application: Post
Date of application: 11-12-13
Payment method: Draft
Date of receipt by UKBA: 12-12-13
Date of acknowledgement: 19-1-14
Date of debit or clearance of fees: n/a
Date approval received: 13 March
Date of ceremony: TBC
Two observations:
1) The call centre is not uptodate. I called yesterday late afternoon and was told my application was still "incomplete" whereas the letter was already dispatched.
2) Delays have nothing to do with nationality.

Congratulations mate !
Completely agree with your first point about the call centre.
What's the date on the approval letter ? do you need to wait for a ceremony invitation by the council or need to book it yourself?
