Refugee applying for citizenship overstayed in the past

Hi
Just wanted to know if a refugee is being refused UK citizenship if they had overstayed in the past. I came here as a student, stayed legally for 6 years, overstayed for 3 years, was granted refugee status recently. Never been absconded or worked illegally. No criminAl record.
Would appreciate anyone's reply to my question
