Refused application for naturalisation

Post by Stan2016 » Sat Jun 04, 2016 8:21 am

Hi
Not sure whether similar questions answered
2nd week March myself and my hubby applied for naturalisation after being in ILR for many years
We kept IELTs academic which we took in 2009 and life in uk test
As rule changes after April
We didn't get NRIC signed
We got letter on 25th may saying we didn't provide enough English qualification, we should submit before 8th June
Otherwise our application will be refused
We both practice medicine for many years in uk
Called home office and one person asked us to send our medical degree certificate which we did in uk
Then we called them yesterday to find out and other person answered saying she can't accept our postgraduate certificate
We sent another letter requesting extension of date
1. Is it possible
2. Called IELTs test - they advised we don't need to retake exam
3. If I need to get NRIC letter, first I need to get letter from India saying my medium of instruction was in English . NRIC states it will take them at least 10 days after we get letter from India that God knows how long
So confused. When they already given us ILR, we been practising medicine so far in English

A NARIC certificate of comparison also incurs a fee of £55. :|

B1 English test at Trinity College costs £150. Naturalisation fee is £1005.

Would you rather lose your citizenship application fee?

Also if you're both practising doctors - and I'd hazard a guess financially better off than your average applicant for citizenship. - then being stingy over £150 each - without which you will lose the application fee - seems incredibly daft.

You have been given a lifeline here, after all some people face flat refusal & have no other id to hand with which to take such a test.

What sort of UK postgraduate degree did you submit? Was it a Masters?

Is there a reason for your question? Unlikely that is is after October 2013.

Hi CR001,

Yes there is a reason, apologies guys for not being clear. Because the OP said ILR for many years I wanted to confirm it was before OCT 2013.

Because if it was after OCT 2013 then HO rejecting on the basis of English language would be unfair.

Hi Stan2016,

Please let us know what was the action taken. Did you contact the HO citing the below

Source: (https://www.gov.uk/english-language/app ... ifications)

If your qualification has run out
Some recognised test qualifications only last for 2 years. You can still use a B1 level qualification that you took more than 2 years ago in 2 situations.

Applying for citizenship

You can use a B1 level qualification that’s run out if you’re applying for citizenship and it was accepted when you settled in the UK.

It doesn’t matter if the B1 level test you took isn’t on the current list of recognised tests. You don’t need to take another test.

According to this your IELTS certificate should work.

One of my friend faced similar issue in the past when PBS printout was accepted as language proof. He still got a request from HO to submit NARIC certificates. He replied in post with the printouts of rules from the website and his application was approved without submitting the NARIC.
