My wife finally sent her EEA3 documents on 02/09/11
UKBA received today on 5/09/11
anyone knows the waiting time?

I also need to apply for EEA4 which is due this month in Sept'11. I didn't apply with my wife as I need my passport for some reason. I want to apply my EEA4 application end of Nov'11 or mid of Dec'11. Can anyone have experience early than 3 months decision time for EEA3 as I also need to show her documents i.e. for her treaty right and residence proof.

My wife have a very straight forward case. 5 1/2 years working with the same employer (P60s and Payslips have supplied). Proof of 5 years residence have supplied.

called on 19th Sept last month regarding the EEA3 COA. Lady advice that we need to wait two more weeks. I hope will get PR this week.

My husband's timeline:

EEA3 application posted by SD on 21/10/11
Received by the UKBA on 24/10/11
PR issued 01/11/11
Documents returned by SD 04/11/11.

Less than two weeks in total. I look forward to how long mine will take.

My EEA3 timeline

Post by eeaman01 » Sat Nov 05, 2011 3:40 pm

Simple case: EEU citizen (citizen of one of the A8 states), came to the UK in Aug 2005, married since Sep 2006, lived and worked in the UK since Oct 2005 in continuous employment. My timeline for EEA3:

EEA3 application posted to Liverpool on 12 Oct 2011
Received by the UKBA on 13 Oct 2011
PR issued on 28 Oct 2011
Documents with PR arrived by post on 4 Nov 2011

In case you are interested, documentation I supplied:
- form eea3, passport, photos, residence card (applied for in 2006 via EEA1)
- P60s up to April 2011, payslips for April 2011 thereafter
- recent letter from current employer confirming employment
- old letters from previous employers confirming employment
- Worker Registration Scheme documents
- bills proving address over relevant period: water, council tax
- tenancy agreements for prior addresses

I know, maybe slightly redundant on the documentation, but I figured if I make it easy for UKBA, they'll issue it faster. Plus I didn't want them to raise any objections where bills had time gaps. Being a simple case helps too. Really "looking forward" to doing form EEA4 for my non-EEA wife soon...

Don't hold your breath. EEA4 applications take much loooonger than EEA3 applications.

Yeah, I fully expect EEA4 to take longer. Especially since as posted here, that will be a more complex case.

What really grinds my gears is that in my cover letter enclosed with form EEA3, I explicitly asked UKBA to issue my PR document in such a way that it denotes the date from which I have held permanent residence status, which in my case is Aug 2010.

They completely ignored me.

They could have put "Aquired Permanent Residence status in Aug 2010." under "Remarks". Instead, that field is empty.

The PR document only shows 28 Oct 2011 under 'date of issue'. So this document is nearly useless. It's practically useful for an EEU citizen like me only because it will simplify documentation requirements on EEA4 for my non-EEA wife. However, if I want to prove to someone that I have been free of immigration restrictions for more than a year now, the PR card they gave me is useless.

So if and when I decide to apply for British citizenship, if I do it before 28 Oct 2012, I will have to prove my exercising Treaty rights all over again...

I am tempted to write a letter to them with my case reference number and say they have not done what I applied for, and ask them to re-issue the card and use the Remarks field. I wonder if that would work... what possible excuse could they make up for not doing that...

If you bothered about it you should apply for confirmation of your PR in August 2010. Does't look like fault is on ukba site.

I agree. By leaving it that long it looks like you weren't too bothered. Nonetheless, the only 'inconvenience' there is is you having to provide all your docs again if you wish to apply for BC.

My husband automatically acquired PR end of Sept. (well, it would've been Sept. 09 if he bothered to get CSI, which he didn't) but got it confirmed 1st Nov., so he would need to do the same when applying for BC or just wait till 1st Nov. He also wasn't bothered about applying but now he has his PR on paper he says he feels happy to have taken a further step towards integration.

My Rough Timeline:

Application Post: Jan
Payment Taken: 1 week later
Confirmation email: 3 weeks later
PR Card (EEA):4 weeks later

Kept it as simple as possible (ie. EEA3 old form, only 1 job in past 5 years, no CR).
