Questions about completing PR application

My PR card came in January. So the NCS guy called Home Office and they told him that my 6 years of Treaty Rights period was completed in 2012. It literally took one minute. They clearly know what they are doing there!
Thanks Fifi, and thanks ANODOS as well - this is so helpful!

Casa - thanks. Phew, it doesn't mean I need to have been here for 10 years, just that I had to be legal and of good character throughout that time, right?

ps. Big question as I'm trying to apply for EEA PR now - do I fill in ONE form for me, and treat my husband as family member and just fill in a section for him - or should we both apply on TWO complete forms, separately?

Re: Changes in citizenship App from 12/11 PR Doc Required

Post by natienka » Sat Feb 06, 2016 11:38 am

Hi All,

Can I ask a few outstanding questions before I send off the EEA PR forms (FINALLY!):

1. we're both EEA nationals. Is it safer to fill in two separate forms and send together, maybe with cover letter?

2. do I have to fill in all absences since 2007 when I first came? The citizenship application states 5 years, this one doesn't state anything. I know everything the last 5 years, the 2.5 before that is at best patchy!

3. section 9.1 - (applying as family member) - I should just go for Not applicable right?
However I should still fill in 9.4 (as that is my history).

4. section 9.15 as a worker under WRS, it asks when did I complete an uninterrupted period of 12 months work under this scheme. As I worked continuously for one employer since I started, is is simply 12 months after I started working? or 12 months since my WRS was issued (about a month after starting work)?

5. section 16 - I only ever got a 2-month council tax reduction when a house I bought was being refurbished (so there was no occupancy). I'm a bit irked it's listed with all the other benefits. Should I still list it and is it likely to cause me trouble?

THANK YOU!!!!

1) It's your choice.
One form can be used.
Or use an earlier (simpler) form.
Or apply by letter.

2) Some members have reported only providing details for the last 5 or 6 years.
Alternately provide what you can but explain in in 'further info' section if it is patchy. That helps cover you for 'honest mistakes'.

3) N/A if using 2 forms.

4) 12 months after start date.
As you have to submit supporting certification evidence a (/ an experienced) caseworker will figure it out.

5) It is not a legal requirement to provide benefits information in order to receive confirmation of PR.
If applying on a simpler form (or by letter) you would not have to submit this.

Thanks a lot! I would worry about using a different form, if only because I don't want to delay things... might have to admit to that benefit then ;)

Hi All,

As an update, we applied for the DCPR, providing evidence for a 5 period ending EARLIER than 12 months before. So we sent docs for 2010-2014 in detail, plus a few from other years. I also added a cover letter stating we send docs for that timeframe. This is to ensure that the actual date they note as you having received PR is earlier than within the last 12 months.

After we received DCPR, which of course was dated for when the card was issued rather than PR acquired, we made the appointment for citizenship. When making the appointment, the very helpful person at a National Checking Service called a 'magic number' in the Home Office to confirm when they actually noted our PR - it was some time in 2014, so meant we could apply for citizenship.

On the day we were talking to another NCS person, and he spent ages explaining to us that it's risky to apply with DCPR dated just now, despite us explaining that we understand the actual date that matters is the one that Home office noted down (the 2014). That was a bit irritating, you'd think the advice in one office would be the same.

ANYWAY - we applied in June, and just today got the letters that we got approved! So it took less than 3 months for citizenship itself. Very pleased!

Congratulations.

You did well to avoid the 'apply for last 5 years trap'.

Sounds like you did it all by the book, an inspiring and reassurring example for your fellow travellers.

Thank you - and also for your help with many questions! Actually I just checked, it seems they noted Dec 13 as when we received PR. That in itself is quite random as it's neither the end of the 5 year period we sent docs for, nor actually 5 years after we arrived (for me it should have been end of 2012, for my hubby March 13).

Either way it was enough, but I still don't understand how they determine that :)

And I would definitely recommend asking NCS to confirm the PR date before sending the docs off for citizenship.
