You can submit printout of the contracts and salary payment and substaniate them with original copies of your bank accounts showing payments have indeed been made.

In UK, A contract is only a contract when it is signed on a paper by both parties. There has not yet been a digital implementation for a contract no matter whether your umbrella company is super paperless !.

So please make sure you have paper contracts in hand otherwise HO will stand tough on you on your extention applications.

A contract is still valid even if made verbally. There are some exception to this rule (mainly sale of land, grant of long lease and sale of patents) but the general rule applies to all other forms of engagement.

I dont know what exactly you mean by this (is it like an offer on a property for sale in scotland ;-)

As tnavon says, a Verbal contract can happen over telephone when the company clearly says your conversation is going to be recorded when it starts . This is again as per the law !. Most of us have come across this while taking mobile phone deals or switching utility providers through telemarketing companies over the phone.

As far as IT services and contracting is concerened it has to be documented and signed. Otherwise the validity is nil.
