Offer letter received from Tier 2 sponsor, but no CoS

I have been looking for a job change in my field and have successfully managed to find one recently. This employer who offered me the new job is a Tier 2 general A-rated sponsor (since Jan 2014) and they also gave me a offer letter.

I have informed them I need a Certificate of Sponsorship so that I can apply for Tier 2 General visa. As I have not heard from them yet (it's been 2 weeks now), the HR person who has assisting me is on vacation.

I wonder if there is a phone number for UKBA/ UKVI that I can ring? I want to find out if my prospective employer has applied for my CoS.
Please can someone tell me if I can find this information. This would really ease my mind as I am very worried. I have already given notice to my current employer, so will be left without any job in two weeks time if my CoS does not come through!
Please advise.

I doubt if UKBA can provide that details as CoS details should be kept confidential.
Also, if your employer assigns the CoS, you will have to apply for Visa. The whole process of Visa may take more than a month. Hence, in this situation, you should prolong your notice period if possible. Otherwise, you can withdraw your resignation and resign once you get the Visa.
