Recruitment agents asking for copy of visa?

Post by pyke » Fri Aug 07, 2009 6:30 pm

I'm new to using recruitment agents. Is it acceptable for them to request for a scanned copy of the Tier 1 visa before proceeding?

Thanks.

Yes. How would they know you could legally work in the UK otherwise?

Depends on the stage, if it is just to tick the box, I usually tell them when we get past the preliminary interviews. I am not comfortable providing a copy of my visa to everyone for fear of abuse. However I have already had previous jobs here so it helps.

Thanks republique. I'm slightly concerned as well.

We're at the stage where the recruiter has gotten permission to represent me and has said that he will send my CV to the employer for a particular vacancy. No interviews as yet though.

I think it should be fine to provide the visa copy. When I was searching for the jobs, 50% of the consultants would ask for it at the very beginning. If I atleast know that this is a real person and can find some details on their website, I have sent the copy of visa to them.

If the employer has asked to carry out check, they are obligated to obtain the info before they can proceed.

To protect yourself, Carry out some basic checks Agent email address, phone numbers (Switch board, direct dial), company house check (Registered in england etc) etc and the name of the client.

Hi Pyke, are you in the UK or did you make contact with the recruitment agent sitting here in India?
Regards,
