Quick question please am in the process of putting in flr (fp) form do i need to pay the nhs Surcharge or not.

Funnily enough, you do not have ANY RIGHT to be in this country! You are not born with the right to reside wherever you want, you EARN that right by meeting certain requirements (for each country you wish to live in), which the OP has not met.

To your other point - We have paid plenty and have been paying the price for hundreds of years for ever coming to Africa, India, Indonesia, and the likes. We send billions of aid to Africa each year, but how can we ever help if people just don't want to help themselves. You can give a man a fish and he can eat for a day, or you can teach a man how to fish and he will not go hungry for the rest of his life. We have tried and tried to teach people from Africa and other developing countries "how to fish"... yet, you want none of that. You'd rather get on the boat, come to this country and live off free benefits - why? Because who wants to "fish" if you just can do nothing and draw on UK benefits by the means of entering this country illegally and then having more children.

I am a British citizen, proud to be one. And yes, I grew up in the States, so you can call me whatever names you want because of that. Yet, I was born in a very poor family in Eastern Ukraine. I fought my way through the system, I have never broken a single immigration rule either in the States or in Britain. I came to the States when I was a teenager on my own, without my family (I was sponsored through a US leadership program). I always had a job, since I was old enough to work legally. I paid my own way for my university degree and never relied on public funds (I was lucky enough to get some academic scholarships to complete my degrees, but I worked hard to achieve academic excellence). To this day, I am yet to draw on any benefits that are offered to me by being a British citizen (outside of NHS for which I have been paying for years through NI and income taxes). I have never been "unemployed" for longer than 3 weeks since I turned 16. I cleaned people's toilets and slept on friend's couches in the past to get by. I went through every hardship imaginable in my young years - and none of it was easy - yet I managed not to break any laws. I worked very hard to afford the life I have today. And yes, today I live a "good" life but I earned all of that through very hard work and determination. Nothing was handed to me on a silver platter. I was not born with a right to be British - I was born Ukrainian... and never once I blamed others for being born in Ukraine. I never felt entitled to anything, and never pointed fingers at other for my own misfortunes.

I know life can be tough and navigating immigration system can be confusing... I am on this forum to help people who genuinely need help! But I am not here to help criminals find loopholes in our immigration system and abuse our country's benefits. I want my children to grow up in Britain that once was Great; and frankly, I do not want this country to turn into little Africa / Middle East before too long. Lawful immigration is a great thing and I completely support it (the keyword is LEGAL) - but I don't see where I am wrong to think that illegal immigrants should be deported and not allowed to continue to live here. Then when they want to do things legally, sure - let them in and all be merry! But until then, illegal immigrants have no right to be here. Period!

So funny ure not born in the uk and you have all this opinion about immigrants.. :D
Why live ur country to go to the state?then wriggle ur way into the uk...I don't see any difference between you and the rest of us (immigrant)so like I said before ZIP IT....
It is well

Yes, you'll need to pay it before you submit your application.

Thanks @Casa for your swift response but do all the applicants need to pay this nhs surcharge ie(one applicant and two dependants) and can i apply for a fee waiver for this only and still pay the normal fees for the main application or simply apply for a fee waiver for the whole application as i can't see myself paying the additional fees for the nhs surcharge right now

Yes, still a bargain, I was reading today the NHS rakes in something like £2800 per person per annum, inc. children etc, so the £200 surcharge is a total steal.

NHS saved my life, if I was in USA I'd either be dead or destitute so the surcharge is fine by me - need all the funds it needs.

@Wanderer i believe u r still using NHS for free because of your permanent status. SO don't tell people about £2800 per person per annum .

Temporary Immigrants r already paying NI and income tax. So this new surcharge is only a new tactic to skim out immigrants more.

What about the immigrants who r fit and well and never used NHS?

People of certain nationality are exempted from the Surcharge, and so is the case for people who are destitute and can demonstrate that they are.

The surcharge is wholly unfair and unreasonable.

For an FLR(FP ) application, the Surcharge will be £500 per applicant.

I think Wanderer is a few Sandwich short of a picnic . No person in their right mind will say Surcharge is appropriate for Tax paying migrant who already pays enormously to the NHS.

Not to mention the fact that 40% of the people that keep the NHS going are foreigner.

Wow!

Almost every country n the World demands health insurance - when I worked in CH I had to pay 130 quid a month, in Ireland, 40 Euro every doc visit, in Russia as non-resident I was taxed at 30% not 10% per locals to pay for it.

Two years of paying NI is not the same as paying a lifetime's worth. Come on - if UK did not have NHS, the alternative is Bupa et al, hundreds a month, not 200 a year.

The 40% figure is bollocks Obie and you know it.

I'm not a fan of this current gov. but I see this a good step, anyone with a sane mind must agree, and, as my good friend Pedro would have said (now deceased, but from Spain before we had EU etc, but lived in my home town of Bolton) 'if u don't like, why not piss off back to Greece....'

He used to put laxatives in the drinks if you were causing bother, no doubt that would be an abuse of Human Rights now and automatic ILR....

RIP Pedro!

Well Wanderer as a Tories/UKIP or a Red Tories, I am not too surprised with the views you expressed.

Every time we have this monstrosity of a government, Criticizing immigrant and ignoring the contributions they make to the NHS.

And yes Wanderer 40% Of NHS staff are foreign born.

The NHS will collapse instantantly if they were to leave.

I cant wait to see how backward Britain when Tories, Red Tories and UK have managed to get rid of all these immigrant.

He had a huge scar from ear to ear under his neck - he told me it was done by fascists in Spain. They said they were cutting his throat, but they only in fact cut the skin just to scare him. Nice.

Thing is he fought for his country, he didn't leave it until he was thrown out, didn't try and sneak into a lorry or boat for his own personal benefit, a real man.

When I knew him he couldn't ever go back since I think Franco was still in charge (need to check dates).

I'm a Socialist Obie, as you know from our previous spats.

In fact, at 17, I was a member of GPGB, a fact that haunts me now due the the level of UK security clearance I have. CND too.

My truck is is with spongers, grabbers, and free riders, of which there are plenty if not more of British, make no mistake I'm no zenophobe, it's just here on this site we are dealing with immigrants, if it was my local pub talking about locals on Benefits Street I'm equally chastised.

Anyway, like I said, life is too short, and for the purposes of this thread I still say 200 quid a year for top notch health insurance is cheap as it excludes pre-existing conditions and a 53 year old male I reckon I've paid in more than 100k (cos I'm well paid) in NIC's and an employee and an business owner and took back about 20k for a heart issue. And I begrudge none of it.

Rant over.

It is not strange for socialist to become a conservative or socially or fiscally conservative.

The 17 years old might have been a Socialist, during the Thatcher days, and her oppression, but the rich and older wanderer is certainly not a Socialist.

Now as you grow richer your view are more aligned with the conservatives. Punish people who are most marginal in the UK, like the unemployed in the Uk, the defenseless migrant, the single parent on income support, the Youth trying to get a job and being on Unemployment benefit. Those are the people that Wanderer is against.

Again the Surcharge, is just a political rather than a financial thing. Many of the people being charged are paying taxes, putting a lot more in the UK than the take out, and never visited hospital in some case.

That's insurance tho, aside from any politico-social bias, £200 a year is fair for a new entrant, it's nothing and as I said, I paid far more even within the EU (well CH) for health insurance.

When I was 17 there was no Thatcher! In fact we had the worst ever labour Gov. under James Callaghan, if anything that should have shattered my Socialist ideal, instead it strengthened it - instead I got a visa to Brezhnev's USSR and went there an realised what a crock of shiit that was too. confused.com

I do ok now but always under the threat of having it taken away, such is the way of modern gov/tax, the next brown envelope may well be an enormous tax demand for not ticking box A or not accounting for SSAP 54..

We're not much different just looking from different angles, I have my hang ups, you have yours. And I respect you for them and that's not a platitude, hate platitudes!

What was the OP's question again?

OK - maybe the forum admins can create an off topic forum where things can be split off - certainly valid discussion if it doesn't turn into a bitch-fest and it's nice to get insights into our protagonists and antagonists, their histories might help how we perceive them good or bad...

But actually thanks to Obie for making that point re the fee waiver and destitution ( and saying it's okay to post the link ) which the OP mightn't have been aware of. Good to see that the Secretary of State does exercise a discretion on the fees and surcharges etc.
