How to go about getting a marriage cert from Albania ?

Post by Diggers1210 » Wed Nov 20, 2013 1:01 am

I was wondering if anyone would know the best route to obtain a marriage certificate from Albania?

Its for a divorce one person is from the UK wanting to divorce an Albania who m cannot be contacted, the marriage has been dissolved 6 years, both have new partners one in a 5 year relationship, as they don't know Albanian and the routes to take to get the certificate which they are told they need to proceed with the divorce, they are wondering how they can get hold of the certificate.

any help would be hugely appreciated

many thanks

They may be able to start divorce proceedings in a UK court and should seek advice from a solicitor who specialises in family law. See here (click).

this is the problem, she is unsure of how to go about this as she doesn't speak Albanian, and she is unsure where exactly they got married (she was kind of pushed into it all very quickly) she doesn't even know the exact date just a rough date, and knows the area was Rreshen (sp)

I am sure if she contacts the authorities in Albania they can search the system with her name and they will find the details. Contacting the Embassyin London would be a good starting point.

I think pretty much that was the case in all honesty, although I am not 100% sure if she saw it that way at the time, I don't know the guy just the Girl.

I wouldn't like to say for sure but yeah I think so, he wanted a UK visa, the police have been informed a few years ago as he was intimidating her to sign some papers or something.

I just said I would help her find a way to get the certificate so she can get the divorce and get on with her life, I think he is just being an mule because she wouldn't go along with it all when she realized what she was getting into..
that is my take on it at least.

Hi I am in a similar situation, my fiancé got "married" several years ago in albania to an albanian and then several years later they got divorced. Long story short, he has vanished along with the supposed documents and my fiancé is not even sure if she was ever married or divorced as it was all in albanian but her ex husband had issues with a visa so could have been something else.

I contacted the albanian embassy in London and all they said was we need the original documents and full details of the people involved before thy can do anything.

We even rang the British embassy in albania but they cannot help, basically you need to speak to the town/area that it took place in, but you will need to speak albanian!!!

Hope that helps

I think then the only option is divorce after five years for desertion but it may well attract the attention of the authorities as your solicitor attempts to trace the co-respondent.

Following on from my previous post, having spoken to the Albanian embassy in the UK, they are waiting for the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get back to them, however I was told that they do not always provide the information. So for me it is a waiting game

I know this has dragged on a bit, but I thought I would let everyone know, I was given the wrong information from the Albanian Embassy, and in fact you need to get some Legal assistance. I contacted an english Speaking Albanaian Solicitor in the capital of Albania 8 days ago - I now have a divorce certificate, translated, notarized and with the apositlle being sent out to me in 3 days time. It is costing 500Euros but thats not bad for all the work they have done and the speed in which they have done it.

Hi

I am in the same boat here, I am a British Citizen who married an Albanian Citizen back in November 2010, We have been Separated for only 8 months however we both agree to a divorce. I am looking to get this done as quick as I can and I have emailed the address above to see if they can help also. I do not have a copy of the marriage certiface and he keeps delaying things saying he needs a copy of my birth certicate and a letter to say that I am not attending the courts, Is that correct?

How did you go about transferring the money to them and did you eventually get your divorce certificate through?

Any advise is appreciated.

I am looking to try to find a copy of a similar marriage certificate as well, but for different reasons. My mom has been seeing an Albanian man for a couple years now, and he had been trying to get a visa, and my mom got sick of hearing questions about when he would be coming to the USA. On her most recent visit I think that they may have gotten married, but my mom is being secretive, as she doesn't want any more questions about when he will be coming to the US and I think she is worried my brother and I won't approve. At least that is why I think she is being secretive. I don't even need a copy of the certificate. I am just looking for some way to confirm that they did get married. I want to do something nice for my mom for her possible new marriage, but don't know if there is anywhere to look up recent marriages. I wish she felt that she could just tell me, because all I want is for her to be happy.
