Applying for FLR(M) absence time

Hello,

I will be applying for an extension on FLR (M) this August.

I am not sure about below question on the form.

10.11. How long have you lived in the UK?
Please provide details of any periods of absence of more than six months during that time.

Do they mean a continuous absence of 6 months or absence of short times (i.e a month in year) but the total is more than 6 months for the time I spent in UK?

It would be great if some one could assist me this question.
