Ielts requirement for spouse visa uk

Post by azianowar » Fri Dec 20, 2013 11:30 pm

Hi guys,

My wife in Bangladesh has just received her results for the ielts exam:

Reading 1.0
Listening 4.0
Writing 5.5
Speaking 6.0

And the total mark was 4.0

I believe that she only requires 4.0 or above for listening and speaking for the uk spouse visa. I have seen this in the guidance notes FAQ on the home offices website.

However I received a lot of conflicting information. I called up the ielts information office here in London and they have advised that 4.0 as a minimum is required for all subjects for a uk spouse visa.

Can someone please advise whether the above score is sufficient for my wife to apply for a uk spouse visa.

Thank you in advance,

Azi

Hi,

First of all IELTS body dont decide what requires as a minimum for a spouse visa application.

2nd thing is that its a grey area with no clear information available any where that what's required by the UKBA to apply for a UK spouse Visa.

So I am affraid no one has got the concrete answer to that.

Good luck with your Wifes Visa Application.

seems to suggest she needs minimum 4.0 for each of those topics.

281(1)(a)(2)
the applicant provides an original English language test certificate in speaking and listening from an English language test provider approved by the Secretary of State for these purposes, which clearly shows the applicant's name and the qualification obtained (which must meet or exceed level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference) unless:

looks like IELTS is only judged at B1 or above. Very confusing!

check out the IELTS bandscore descriptors guys:

https://www.ielts.org/researchers/commo ... ework.aspx

I have also found the guidance info from the home office. check out the last question on page 4.

I have taken a test at level A1 which tested reading and writing as well as
speaking and listening skills. I passed speaking and listening but failed
to reach A1 in reading and writing. Can I still use this test?

Providing you can demonstrate you have passed in speaking and listening at
Level A1 with one of the approved test providers you can use this evidence.
We are only using tests which can show separate scores for speaking and
listening skills.
