Immigration Health Surcharge Exchange Rate

Post by GregZA » Wed Jul 13, 2016 4:13 pm

Hi All,

I am applying for an ancestral visa and need to pay my IHS fee of £1000 (£200 per year, 5 year visa). When I log into the IHS website to make a payment it is forcing me to pay in South African Rands and the amount is set at R24,000.00 which is equivalent to about £1300.

Does anyone have any advice for me on how I can not pay the extra £300? Should I just wait until the IHS website updates its exchange rate or is there a way that I can just pay £1000 on my credit card and let the bank do the exchange?

Thanks,
Greg

If you are applying in South Africa, you will have to pay at the local rate in the local currency which takes into account exchange rate fluctuations etc. There is not much you can do about this.
