Sole responsibility (UK Child settlement Visa Application)

Post by Alvin67 » Sun Jan 18, 2015 1:21 am

Hello All,

Can anyone help by clarifying which documents would be needed to assist proving sole responsibility in a Child Settlement Visa application for a non EU citizen?

The child’s mother will be applying for a settlement visa at the same time and has always lived with the child.

The father hasn’t really been involved with the child for a number of years other than a phone call a few times a year.

My wife and myself make all decisions concerning my step daughter and I provide financial support.

Finally my wife and step daughter have lived with my family for over 3 years now.

Any advice on this matter would be appreciated.

Alvin

May be able to establish Sole responsibility on the bases of the facts you have set out.

Obie, thanks for your prompt reply and the link.

Would a letter from the father stating that he gives his consent for my step daughter to come and live in UK carry any weight or complicate things?

If mother has sole responsibility, then father's consent isn't required. If father's consent is required, then mother doesn't have sole responsibility.

Fully agree, some applicants can't help but inadvertently complicate things.

I believe the authorities are in your guidance are sound on this issue. TD and NA Bangladash remains good law.

Thanks for the advice given and the information in this forum which together with other material helped greatly in getting the visas approved for both my wife and step daughter.

A wealth of information.

Again, thanks!!

Hi Alvin,

I know it’s been a while since you posted this question. However my case is very similar to yours, and I was hoping you could perhaps offer some advice: What documents did you end up submitting as part of your application?

Thanks is advance!

Best regards,
John
