Switching from 10 year route to 5 year Route Urgent Pls.

I was finally granted 30months stay on the 10 year partner route to be renewed every 2 and half years.
I would like to switch to the 5 year route as we meet all the requirement.

Has anyone done the switch while being self employed and what documents were requested of you.
if i stay on the 10 year route will the renewal process be another 2 year battle?
