Forgot to register my tier 2 (general) visa for 1.5 years

Hi,
I renewed my tier 2(General) visa in August 2015, however, I just noticed that I haven't registered it with police. I've been told that I may get a verbal warning on my certificate, and I am planning to apply for the ILR this August, so I really worry whether this warning will affect my application? I plan to register next week, is there a way to avoid this verbal warning on my certificate? Should I just report that I lost my certificate and then apply for a new one, in that case they will not know my late registration?
