ILR Absence

Dear all

my friends want to apply for ILR next month.Everything is fine only one issue is about absences
He has a one single long continue absence for 220 days .
if we calculate the specified continuous period backwards from the date of the ILR application then his absence falls into 2 different years or in simple words it will be split up in 2 different years .
I just want to know is it acceptable by UKBA and they will not consider it a single absence ? or his absence will be counted a single long absence ????

Yes if more than 180 days absence falls into 2 different years than is acceptable there are few successful stories in the forum
