Foreign Birth Registration Letter

Post by sensitivesoul » Wed Jan 18, 2012 8:13 pm

Hey everyone,

Was hoping anyone could help me with something. I recently sent my application of foreign Birth Registration to the Embassy of Ireland in Ottawa Canada. I just received a envelope of them today.

It contained all the documents I sent them and a letter(date they must of printed it they wrote on here January 16 2012) saying that they have copied all the documents and placed them on file. It also said my file will be reviewed on a later date?

I just wanted to get your opinion and see if this is normal. It makes me nervous because I want to get back to my boyfriend with this citizenship and we've already been apart since July..

Has anyone applied to the Ottawa Embassy? are they pretty good with processing times? I hope they are quick to bringing up my file...

PS. They Have " REF: 19 of 2012" on here does that mean I'm the 19th person that has sent an application to them in 2012?

Congratulations - at least you got a reference number!

The sad thing however is that it appears you are the 19th applicant of 2012! If they also operate at snail speed as usual, which is probably one application per week, you are in for a long wait.

However, I will suggest that you call them, give your reference number and ask for a "realistic" date when you will get a response from them.

All the best!

Thanks adlexy :), heres hoping its a wee bit faster  . thanks for the advice, will definitely be calling them to get the realistic date. .Though it says I shouldn't call them is that just for if i were checking up on the application everyday or close to? Thanks again :)

fbr processing time @ ottawa canada

Post by fillmore » Thu Mar 08, 2012 6:50 pm

New posting at embassy of Ireland,Ottawa website ..Fbr applications will be reviewed after 10-12 months,. ( encouraging) does not say anything about actual processing times. The 24 month processing time that was written has been removed .. ( Check Embassy website on a regular basis ,The processing time seems to change every 4 months ) 8)

Really is disgraceful that you will have to wait that long. I have just been through the process through the embassy in Madrid for my son and turnaround time was only 10 days. Total time with getting FBR and passport was two and a half months. my mom went through the Fbr process about a decade back at the johannesburg embassy an hers took 9 months...

24 month seems very long

I'm not Canadian, but I'm doing the FBR process in the US from the Chicago consulate. When I submitted the application in September 2011 they also estimated it would take 18-24 months.

At the end of February I received a call requesting more information. Once I sent that in to them they returned all of my originals with a letter "officially" acknowledging the acceptance and estimating 6-8 month processing time overseas to receive my citizenship. Hopefully it doesn't turn into the full 24 months.

You may want to contact an Irish immigration lawyer to see if it would be possible to file a court application forcing them to decide the application. ("Mandamus" injunction)

Post by christine2562 » Fri Jun 29, 2012 5:09 pm

I recently applied in the US through the San Francisco consulate. Does anyone know current processing times?
