Help - Traveling a lot in Final Year

Post by berytus » Mon May 25, 2015 4:29 am

Hello,

I hope you're all keeping well.

I'm in my final year (5th year) before applying for naturalization and I'm traveling a lot for work. Will this be an issue? I've been out of the country for around 2 months already in 2015. I apply in September. Based on what I know, only gaps in Visas are something to be worried about.

Thanks in advance,

Hi berytus, could you please advise where did you find that "only gaps in Visas are something to be worried about."? Thanks

Hey Gracious2015,

If your visa and GNIB expire on July 15 for example, and you renew them on the 30th of July, that's a 15 day gap that have to be accounted for before you apply for naturalization.

@ Gracious2015 You are right and wrong, the gap in visas matters and if there is gap in your visas in the last 5 years you can't even apply for your naturalization. Also the gap would be considered while examining your application if you are out of the country more than 6 weeks per year. Please read the naturalization application form carefully...

@CalvinKlien

Where can I find this information online, about being out of the country for more than 6 weeks?

Thanks,

@CalvinKlein Many thanks for your reply, if there is gap of 30 days in the previous 5 years then one can apply after 5 years and 30 days in order to have 60months of residency, is that correct?

@Berytus the info about being away for more than 6 weeks is on the naturalisation form, not sure if this is anywhere else.

You have been out of the country for longer than six weeks this year already which means you cannot apply for naturalisation in 2015.

Nobody has a clear answer to this question. Your best bet is to get a letter from your employer when you apply saying that you were required to travel for work and listing the trips and maybe even their purpose. Allegedly they look positively on trips that are required for work or for medical purposes.

Thanks @zkzkz

I'll get the letter if needed!
