Processing time for Join Spouse/Non-EU cit. visa?

Post by neuron » Wed Nov 12, 2014 8:53 am

Hi again!

I'm arriving to Ireland on a Green Card in December. We applied for my wife's visa in the local embassy on October 14th, and I originally saw on the INIS website (and read on this forum) that the processing time for those visas is approx. 12 weeks.

But yesterday, I discovered the 'Current processing times' page on the INIS website (http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Cu ... ng%20Times) which states that they're currently processing Join Family applications made on June 6th, which puts their lag time at 5 months!

So, is it realistic that I expect my wife's visa to be approved after 12 weeks, or are we facing a longer wait?

EDIT: Typo.

I heard that the join spouse visa for EU / Irish citizens take 6 months and people on green card / work permit the waiting time is near to 1 year.

So yes, in ur case i would say it will easily take 6 months if not a year,

Good Luck

Thank you for the quick answer, and all the answers you've provided to my previous questions on this forum.

One more thing - once I arrive in Ireland, get my first pay slip and proof of permanent address (e.g utility bill), should I send that on to INIS as additional documentation for her application, and could that speed up the process?

I don't think utility bills are going to speed up the process. ur green card copy is enough for your spouse visa. If INIS need any further docs they will ask by post / phone.

Good Luck

Spoke to the consul in my local consulate this morning. She said that INIS very much prefers that I send my first payslip, GNIB card copy and proof of obtaining a PPS number (didn't mention utility bills) after I get them in Ireland, and that I can expect the application to take a good 6 months to process after I append those to my wife's application!

Um, I'm pretty sure this is a stupid question, but - can she, in the meantime, at least apply for a temporary visitor's visa, and come visit me for 30 days at some point?

Also, while they're processing the Join Spouse visa, can we get her passport back, so she can travel to other countries?

My wife's visa was approved yesterday, finally. It took 3 and a half months, which isn't too bad! :)
