Relocating after Naturalisation

Post by tokyomonkey » Tue Oct 21, 2014 11:39 am

Hi, friendly forum folk. My wife and I have been living in Ireland for eight years now. She's Korean, I'm Scottish, and she's had residency under the Eu Treaty regulations for long enough to qualify for naturalisation. My question is this: Supposing she gets citizenship, then we want to relocate to, say, Scotland, shortly after, would the Irish govrnment revoke her status? Any answers would be much appreciated.

If your wife is going to reside outside the island of ireland for more than 7yrs, she will have to register with the local embassy every year that she wants to retain her irish citizenship.
beloved is the belief that there are inherent differences in people's traits and capacities that are entirely due to their race, however defined, and that, as a consequence, justify the different treatment of those people, both socially and legally.

Thanks for that. Just a bit worried that the Irish government might retract her citizenship if we're living in the UK for any length of time.

Don't think that would be a big issue. Of course the requirement to register does exist, but I'm sure they wouldn't take away her Irish citizenship if she lived in the UK. You could always contact INIS to make sure that she should register after 7 years. I'm sure it would be hard to track.

Once ur wife reside in the UK for 5 years on Irish passport, she can also apply for UK passport, which might help.

If She does that She will lose Her Irish citizenship.
See below:
Revoking citizenship
The Minister for Justice and Equality can revoke your certificate of naturalisation if:

You obtained it through fraud, misrepresentation or concealment of material facts or circumstances
You have, through an overt act, failed in your duty of fidelity to the nation and loyalty to the State
You were ordinarily resident outside Ireland (other than in public service) for a continuous period of 7 years and, without a reasonable excuse, did not register your name and a declaration of your intention to retain Irish citizenship with an Irish diplomatic mission or consular office or with the Minister for Justice and Equality on an annual basis - see 'How to apply' below.
You are also, under the law of a country at war with the State, a citizen of that country
You have, by any other voluntary act other than marriage or registration of civil partnership, acquired citizenship of another country.

Well, she is not doing an fraud, she wana live with her husband in his home country but lets suppose if Irish authorities ever find that she is not residing in the state, she would have a UK passport anyway and she wouldn't have claimed that by so call fraud.
