I wasn't asked but i did go into Burgh Quay there. They didnt give me a new gnib card, but they extended the stamp i my passport by 3 months and said it would be fine... well, they say that, we will see.
Whats your timeline?
There is a timeline thread here, maybe you could add yourself.

Also Burgh Quay told me it would be fine because they are "really really behind on renewals".
It takes a long time to even get an appointment.

Ah I see your timeline there... sorry.

So, they asked you for you GNIB card to be renewed after your second stage letter?

To The_Mentiad

Well actually I did update them with my permanent residency letter which was issued for 10 years(EU-3).
So they sent me acknowledgement letter asked me update with up to date GNIB.
I explained them (CITZ) dept that Ive valid visa till 19th January and I booked an appointment with GNIB on the same day.So once i extend my visa I will update them.
also i did send appointment letter which I booked for 19th January 2017.
Because once they see visa is about to expire they kept it for long.
Just to on the same side..
Glad u did see my time line..

NB: when ur visa expired?
are you married to EU citizen?
did u go without appointment

So all that happened before you received the second stage letter or after?

My visa was to expire mid Jan also, but they gave me an extra three months.
I am EU spouse.
They haven't asked me for GNIB card or anything yet, which is why I am curious about when you received the request from them...

My best guess is that you will be fine as long as you have the process in the pipeline. I got a very clear message from Burgh Quay that renewals are in a total mess, or at least running really behind.

Yes it did happen after second letter.I got that letter for updated GNIB from CITZ on 4th jan 2017.
I got my second letter on 16th November and then I did update myself with a letter to the CITZ dept that i got approval for permanent residency just to let them know and avoid further delay.
Because they wrote me an email that approval will be rolling in few weeks.
If i didnt update them they wouldnt ask it now but eventually they do if ur visa gets expire.
I give u an advise i feel like you are about to get ur approval and they will ask for update visa. Then just send ur updated new 3 month visa pages..
Because if u update now they will hold it for another 3 months till u get real original update visa
U get me?
Ur 3 month visa is temporary visa..
it just my thoughts
did u go to GNIB with out appointment??

Yes thats precisely my plan, and also what Burgh Quay advised.

I made an appointment online, because they won't see anyone without an appointment now it seems.

I have stamp 4...

so i had one appointment and they didnt give me a new GNIB card, but instead they gave me a three month extension on my current stamp... they seemed to think that was all i needed... but you know, you talk to three people and you get three different awnsers, it is all very hard to work out.

Just to be clear as you are married to eu citizen I believe you have EUFam-stamp 4 and did u go to GNIB with any letter from justice or u are still waiting on justice letter for further visa extension.
Basis on what they gave you only 3 months ?( temporary extension) Just curious..

still if u lucky sometimes u get a correct answers..

So all I knew, because of this forum, was that it was a good idea to keep GNIB up to date. So I made an appointment.

I didnt get any letter from them.

When I went in and explained I was applying for citizenship and had received my second stage letter they took a copy of the letter and my marriage cert and then gave me a three month stamp in my passport.

It was all kind of weird though if you know what I mean. Kind of like they all make this stuff up as they go along because nobody actually knows for sure what should happen!!! :p

I get you now and I understand why did they give 3 months extension with out GNIB..
But good that u got stamped..they can actually check if u did apply for Citizenship..
By the way if u are married to eu citizen not sure why didn't you apply for eu3 or self right depends on ur circumstances..u get me ??
or u already did ??

U time line i saw its moving smooth..
what was the last email u got from CITZ ?

Last email from CITZ says

"The applications are currently being processed with a view to establishing
whether they meet the statutory conditions for the granting of
naturalisation, such as good character and lawful residence, and will be submitted to the Minister for decision as expeditiously as possible."

That was end of december.

I think I will email them again in a week or two.

ok so...
Question 16: When should I apply for an EU3 Permanent Residence Card?

If you are the holder of an EU1 Residence Card you will be eligible for a Permanent Residence Card if and when you have resided in the State in conformity with the Regulations for a continuous period of five years. As applications for a Permanent Residence Card can take up to six months to process, you should make an application for a Permanent Residence Card on Form EU3 six months before the expiry of your EU1 Residence Card.

Now in simple words ..once u married to eu citizen u get stamp 4 for 5 years..then after 5 years if u are still with ur wife and u should apply for eu-3 and justice will issue 10 years permanent residency card..

I should do this even if I have applied for citizenship though????

I kind of thought it was unnecessary if I get the citizenship.

Yes everyone should apply for this bro..

http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/EU ... tsFAQs#Q19

because no one knows if we gonna get approval or not..
because citizenship is not a rights its a privilege

actually u are lucky that they give u temporary visa.. only they give only temporary visa who applied for further extension for eu3 and waiting for their results..

Well you should make an application for a Permanent Residence Card on Form EU3 six months before the expiry of your EU1 Residence Card.
EU-3 took long time to get approval..But if u apply now and in the main time if u do not get approval for citz then u can go to gnib and get ur temporary extension by saying u applied for eu-3
if u still with ur wife just send an application for EU-3 tomorrow..
u need all these:
**. Colour copies of all pages of all passports of applicant.
**. Colour copies of Passport of EU citizen.
**. Two passport-size photos of applicant
**. Two passport-size photos of EU citizen.
**. Evidence of relationship of applicant to EU citizen as Civil Marriage Certificate.
**. Evidence of activities in the State of E.U citizen.
1.Letter from employer setting out terms and conditions of employment and signed contract of employment
2. P60s for the last five years.
**. Copies of 3 recent pay slips (dated within the previous 6 months)
**. Evidence of residence of applicant and EU citizen in the State for a continuous period of 5 years:
1. Letter from landlord, tenancy agreement, and Letters of Registration from Private Residential Tenancies Board.
2. Utility bills in the names of both the applicant and the EU citizen for each year of residence.

Thats the form for EU-3

It can be a problem with CITZ because if u see your CITZ acknowledgement or second letter u will see a CITZ ref No and as well as person ID no..
This person Id they do cross check with GNIB..now if u already applied for eu3 or or dont they can know..
Its a simple things for them if somes EU-1 is about expire he or she should go for EU-3..
They mostly concern who are married to eu citizen and appling for CITZ..does it make sense..
many ppl got approval in 3 or 4 month while they have their visa..
some cases they really want have an update..
I wish they wont ask for any updates..
But if i were you Id apply for EU-3..
