Indian Passport for baby born in the UK

Post by Tier 1 Info » Wed Feb 20, 2013 1:45 pm

Hello,

My little one was born in Croydon. We have moved to Edinburgh and looking to apply for his Indian passport.

Was going through the website: cgiedinburgh.org

One of the documents required is:
v) A declaration that the minor child does not hold the passport of any other country, notarised and stamped by Notary and signed by both parents in original and copies.

I have heard from other friends that they have not submitted such a form.
Any advice on this please ? Is this mandatory ? If so, whom can we approach for getting it notarised ?

Thanks in advance.

One of my friend's applied it 2 weeks back at Edinburgh.

Yes it is mandatory. You can get it done via a local solicitor.

Also make sure you take all the docs with you. And make 3 set of photocopies which needs to be self attested. So in total, one original and ten 3 set of photocopies. They take cash only and you need to have exact amount

I dont think you need this declaration / affidavit unless one of the parent holds other nationality passport than India...
I applied recently at London did not provide such documents...

Another confusion in the Birth registration form, I have applied online and printed out the birth registration application. Under this Part 2 states the declaration from parents that child does not hold any other countries passport.

Under this ...
**Signature and designation of the officer authorized under rule 38 of the
Citizenship Rules, 2009 before whom the registration, declaration or oath of
allegiance is made or taken.(i.e. the Collector, Deputy Commissioner, District
Magistrate)
Is this means do we need to get attestation from Doctor/Magistrate in Uk or this section should be filled by consular officer? am bit confused here... can anyone please suggest me .

Ok, clearly it appears different to be in England (NOT REQUIRED) and Scotland (REQUIRED) , I think. I had a friend who applied last week in London in HCI London, and he did not have to submit such a notorised declaration from a solicitor.

But appears from Gagan1986's post, it does seem a requirement in Edinburgh.

My friend who applied it last month was asked for it in Edinburgh

Hello All
Please can you confirm if I can apply for both birth registration and passport on the same day?
I will be doing them at London HCI.
Any input in this regard is much appreciated.

Thanks

No, you cant apply for both together in London, unless they changed after I applied (applied on 27/02/2013) You need to first apply for birth registration and give them a self addressed envelope. Birth certificate will be send to you in a weeks time and you got to take copies of it when you apply for passport.

Cheers
Jobin.

Am not too sure HCI london, but in the CGI Birmingham, it has clearly mentioned that we can applu both birth registration as well passport application together to avoid multiple visits to the consular office.

Many Thanks for the info!

I am certainly going to apply at London HCI so its going to be two tasks...
no worries...

How long does it take in HCI to get the birth registration work done?
Just curious to know if I need to take a dayoff or can manage with few hours permission from office?

Thanks

And also it would be great if you could help me how to get
'A declaration that the minor child does not hold the passport of any other country.'

Is this something we need to obtain from some solicitor or someone?

From above posts I see some mixed responses...but not sure

Thanks

This depends on how early you reach the HC. I reached at 7am, and got token no:7 for consulate services. They started issuing tokens at 8:30 and accept application about 9. The actual submission takes only5 mins. I left HC around 10.

This declaration is part of the printed birth registration application form, you just need to sign it. That is all..

I've similar issue of Affidavit notarised which is costing £70 but its for OCI application for my kid instead of Indian passport. I got mixed opinion and i'm confused now whether its required or not.

Awaiting from expert who already applied http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=129023.

Please do not confuse yourself as this OP has question and declaration in regards to obtaining Indian Passport for minor.

And in your case your are not Indian citizen and applying for OCI. For OCI minor application, joint/single parent affidavit is required, if minor didnt obtain/have Indian passport/citizenship.

regards.

You must take these docs on the top of your list...
UK Short & Full Birth Certificate
Indian Birth Certificate issued by Embassy
Marriage Certificate

And, your partner's passport copies must be self attested by your partner...
