Indian passport renewal at HCI London

Post by brpiratla5555 » Thu Nov 07, 2013 3:25 am

I have applied for my Passport Re-Issue (Passport expiring on 14 Nov. 2013) on 18 Oct. 2013 at High Commission London and on the Receipt it was stated : Check after Five Weeks".
When my Passport would be ready and how do I know it? Further I was told that the Passports will be sent to India for printing. . I have seen the members' recent posts in Oct. 2013 that they received passports after renewal in 7 days. I have booked my tickets to travel to India in the first week Dec. 2013 for my marriage. Please help. What is the earliest that I can visit High Commission as I am unable to connect to them over phone for any further inquiry. Please help me and suggest a way. Thanks for all the help. Regards.

I believe someone recently had to travel to the HC and enquire face-to-face to sort the process out. They waited 5 weeks I believe.

Thanks for the response. Did they get their passport after 5 weeks?

I am planning to visit HC on 18 Nov 13 to inquire. My 5 weeks time will lapse by 21 Nov 13. In the untoward event, do you think they help by giving a letter for one time trip (for marriage) as a special grant? Is there any other way out? Please suggest. Thanks and Regards

I do not know much about how they operate. However, they were quite accommodating for the other member (click).

Thanks for the reply. Today I sent a mail to HC and I got a response stating that the Passport is NOT READY and stated that "there must be a stamp on the receipt advising me to check after 5 weeks". They also said that at present, it is taking longer time to obtain a new passport due to certain operational and technical constraints. Passports will be printed in India and dispatched to us from there.

However, they have not given any clue and I am worried whether I would receive my passport even upon completion of 5 weeks (5 weeks would lapse by 22 Dec. 2013).

Would you be kind enough to suggest a way and is it possible to obtain a letter or emergency temporary passport for one time visit while the passport is under process?

Can anybody suggest a way please...

Thanks and Regards.

why don't you wait until 22nd Nov for the 5 week to complete? your travel date is not until 1st week of Dec.
OCI and PIO booklets also get printed in India and the normal turn around time is usually 4-5 weeks.

Good Morning. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am going to wait and plan to visit HC on 21 Nov. 2013. As it is the question of marriage and the travel date is 05 Dec. 2013 I am a bit worried. However, thanks for the support. Regards.

your worry is understandable but it's unlikely HCI will entertain your query until after the 5 week period especially when you are not travelling. After that - if passport not received and you chase HCI - they will definitely consider your case.

Thank you very much for the support you are offering continuously. I agree with you totally. By 21 Nov. 2013 the given 5 weeks time would lapse. I am planning to visit them on 21 Nov. 2013 and present my case with all proofs including the Wedding Card, all international and domestic air tickets, etc. and as you said I am very much hopeful that the passport would be ready for pick-up by 21 Nov. 2013 or certainly they would do something to help me before my departure date (05 Dec. 2013).

Following is what I read in one of the the websites (link provided below):

Quote:

Procedure for issuance/renewal of passports to Indian nationals.

The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India has introduced issuance of Machine Readable Passports in all Passports Offices in India in 2002 and abroad w.e.f. 27.08.2007. Under this system, all applicants desiring to renew/obtain new passports in Indian Missions abroad would have to apply in the prescribed format. The details would be fed into the computer and up linked to the Ministry’s system in New Delhi wherein it would be downloaded and processed for printing. After printing of the passports, these would be sent to the respective Missions by courier. The procedure takes up to two weeks for issuance of Passports from the date of submission of applications.

It may be noted that machine readable passports are secure, tamper-proof and in accordance with the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

Once again thanks for all the support. Regards

I applied for a renewal of my passport in person on September 27, 2013. So it's been almost nine weeks and still nothing. There is something on my receipt advising me to inquire after five weeks but after a month of e-mails nothing's been done.

They keep telling me that they are waiting for passports to be shipped from India but obviously if you got yours renewed and I applied before you they have some. Did you go to the high commission and complain?

I too have to travel around mid December and time is running short.

This is really very bad. Please visit them them pursue the matter. Following info may be useful to you.

In case your problem remains unresolved despite repeated applications/visits to the Mission, then you are advised to meet the Minister – Consular, E-mail: min.cons@hcilondon.in (for Passport, Visa and Miscellaneous Consular Services) under the 'Open Day' Meeting on 2nd and 4th Wednesday (between 1100-1200 hrs) of the month. It is clarified that 'Open Day' meeting is not a substitute for expediting or facilitating routine work in the Mission.

http://www.hcilondon.in/advisory_complaints.html

YOU HAVE TO CHECK WHETHER THIS IS A REALITY OR BOASTING ON THE WEBSITES..PERHAPS YOU CAN INQUIRY WHEN YOU VISIT THEM OR ON PHONE.

Although they are saying 5 weeks, they are delivering the Passports within 5 weeks. So, there is either something wrong in your case as you have submitted the Passport in Sept. 2013 itself.

Please pay a visit and pursue the matter personally.

Hi,

How did you get the status update? I applied for renewal on 21-Nov-2013. So far haven't got any update. When I mailed HC, they asked me to contact after 5 weeks (i.e. 27-Dec-2013). I have to travel to India on 31-Dec-2013. So just worried whether I can get my passport back on time.

No issues, you will be certainly receiving the passport in 4 weeks time. Visit HCI after 4 weeks. Pls go there in the evening to the Passport Collection Section and give the receipt to them. You can happily travel on 31.12.13, No problem. This is as per my experience and I got it in 4 weeks time. Regards
