OCI APPLICATION - FAMILY APPLICATION

Post by shweta.duggal » Fri Jul 05, 2013 11:15 am

I want to apply OCI for my husband, myself and a minor. Can i just go myself and drop the application?
Also, do my husband need to go and collect his OCI or I can do that as well?

Please throw some light.

Thanks

OCI

Post by eashkuma4 » Fri Jul 05, 2013 12:31 pm

OCI application is a two step process

Step1- Application Submission

Step-2 OCI Collection

Both the steps can be done in post/personal. The suggestion is to do in person especially Step 1, as they are experiences where HCI lost some of the applications and you don't want yourself to get into that situation.

You can apply OCI to your nearest embassy, ex- Birmingham, London, Edingburgh.

To apply OCI first you have to Surrender Indian Passports and obtain Surrender Ceriticates without which you cannot get OCI

Once you have the Surrender certificates, please fill up the form online at the below link
https://passport.gov.in/oci/
Please fill the application as per the details you have mentioned in Indian Passports example, father name, mother name, spouse name which you never have in British Passport.
Once the application is filled in, make sure you answer all the questions and then submit, upon submission take the pdf print out in one set and attach the following
1. photographs 51*51- 1 per person
2. British Passport photo copies all details and observation pages-1 per person
3. Marraige certificate-1
4. Child full version Birth certificate-1
5. Surrender certificate photo copy Plus Original-1 per person
6.Indian cancelled passport-1 per person
7. fee-175£ per person

submit either in person or post and wait for 1-2 months if London else 3-6 months for other consulates

Thanks for the information.

Does change of current address has any implications on OCI card/sticker ?

If you have received your OCI already and changed the address, you can change the address using misc services BUT change of address/occupation is just meant for data base and no one physical hard copy of form is generated resulting No fee and NO submission

You don't need to worry. Just apply using current UK address. If your OCI arrived after you changed the address, you can collect it in person or send a special delivery post with your new address on the return cover

Indian HC also know address and occupation are quite often changed, henceforth they didnt asked to apply on a hard copy by paying fee, however as the purpose of Information we update it on their data base using misc form.

Bottom line, NO Worry you are good to go

current UK address will be printed in the back cover of the OCI booklet (same as in indian passport) and profession in the front cover.
Primarily for information purpose only and of little value in real life. I personally don't see any significance of having these information on a booklet that is going to last for 20-30 years

One quick observation from above post by eashkuma4 -
- why do they need both below together as surrender certificate confirm the cancellation of Indian passport

5. Surrender certificate photo copy Plus Original-1 per person
6.Indian cancelled passport-1 per person

OCI Application

Post by ukcitizen13 » Sat Jul 06, 2013 10:56 pm

Please advise for OCI application ?

1. How to pay the fee at HCI,London ?
Website states -->We accept Cash or Postal order only at the counter while submitting the application in person.

2. OCI form statement - This form when completed should be submitted in duplicate (both sets must have original
photographs and signatures along with enclosures)-

Do I need to submit 2 copies of application or what does this statement states ?

3. Adult self attestation of document photocopies - is it just signature and date or do I need to write "self attested" or my name or anything else ?

4. Minor document photocopies attestation - can be done by one parent or needs to be signed by both parents ?

5. On OCI website(http://hcilondon.in/oci.html) , mentioned Birth certificate under Other supporting documents ,do I need to submit birth certificate for all applicants ?

6. Under Documents required on OCI website as stated above, states "(v) Indian Origin Proof" - what proofs needs to be submitted for this ?

Also, any recent experience from latest OCI application submission would also be helpful - counter opens at 08:30 and being safer side what time I should go there ?

Thanks in advance
