Hi all,

I am awaiting a status change on the documents received at London part of the tracking system. In preparation to hand over my passport, I was going through the docs required and they ask for an acknowledgement receipt of application. What is this ?

I don't seem to have any such paper.

This is the receipt VFS gives you when you apply for the OCI the first time. It refers to the money you paid for the service. Normally they staple it to something.

However normally (inspite of what the docs required says) they don't really ask for any docs when taking the passport. If you can show a printout showing your application is ready for collection, then you should be all right.

Birmingham embassy seems to be extremely slow, even surpassing its own low standards. Looking at the timeline on this forum, the time from submission of passport to receipt of passport and OCI card seems to be on an average 3-4 days for London and 5-7 days for Birmingham. I submitted my son's passport at VFS office on 8 June. Today is 17 June and I haven't heard anything yet! My emails to them have not been replied. I am flying to India on July 2 and I hope the passport and OCI card arrives next week! So frustrating!

Another day gone and no signs of my son's passport or OCI. Sent on 8 June! I wonder how long it takes for Birmingham embassy to cancel a PIO card and send the OCI card- when I did for myself in April- got it back in 8 days! It is 12 days now and still counting! Contacted VFS who said it is nothing to do with them! Called embassy- constantly engaged. Sent them another email today after no response to 2 sent earlier! Again no response ! Aaaargghhhh!

Can somebody please confirm to me that when we submit passport for getting the OCI after it has been received at high comission does VFS provide an acknowledgement. Yesterday I submitted my passport and there was no acknowledgement given. I am a bit worried if what happens if they lose the passport I have no proof of submission. Is it the same for all??

That's correct! No acknowledgement given that passport has been handed in! Another of my gripes against them!

I sent an email to Birmingham consulate about the other remaining passport of my son on 8/4/16. I was told that the photo was rejected ( 2 year old- difficult to get a proper picture) anyway, I had to get another picture and send it.

After 42 days ie on 23/3/16 I sent an email to the consulate asking about the delay in processing. They said it was because my PIO card was issued in London, and they had to get confirmation from London. It seems that if you apply for OCI in a different jurisdiction to where you applied for PIO, the process gets delayed.

Hi,

I submitted my application for OCI in January 2016 and still showing Under Process.
I have emailed CGI Birmingham but I am afraid they are not very helpful. No one knows the reason for the delay. I am more surprised that I was born and brought up in India and still the application under process. Is there anything I could do? I can't understand why it is taking so long.

Anyone any idea or advice?
