Indian Passport Expiry and travel

Hi all,

I am under Tier 1 (general) visa and my Indian passport expires on 10 Oct 2014 but I am travelling to India on 15 July and will be back on 14 Aug.
I want to know if its wise to renew my passport after coming back from India. Otherwise, if I apply now for renewal, I am not sure if I can get my new passport before my travel. Seniors please advise.
