Deposit dispute - court case - effect ILR?

Post by kash790 » Wed Aug 27, 2014 12:19 pm

I am on a Tier 1 General visa and will apply for ILR soon.

Recenly, I moved from my rented flat and there is a dispute with my landlord regarding my deposit to be returned to me.

If we enter into court proceedings, will it affect or my ILR application be rejected.
Should I agree to landlord's claims although they are not true.

Thanks

The short answer is no
a) you won't go for court, if your deposit is protected and you choose to use the service provided by deposit protection scheme.
b) if you do go for court even then it is a civil matter and have no affect

See 7.2 of the form. They are only asking for criminal convictions.

Even then the answer to your original question is no. I would suggest you to read "general ground for refusal" document

A CCJ would need to be disclosed should one be given, however, it shouldn't be a general grounds for refusal.

In now a days the refund of rent deposit becoming very painful. But clever/intelligent tenants already predict that and try to adjust it in the last month of rent.
