Foreign birth register through parent?

Post by Natonstan » Thu Sep 11, 2014 9:00 pm

Just a quick question, I seem to be getting different answers online.

My father was born and lives in the Republic of Ireland, now I know that makes me automatically a citizen, I however was born in the UK, if I wanted to apply for an Irish passport would I still need to register on the foreign birth register beforehand?

No.

You just apply for an Irish passport, and the act of applying for an Irish passport essentially confirms that you would like to be an Irish citizen.
