Application form for ILR dependent

I need help. I have applied for my ILR. Now it is about 5 months. Few days back I got letter from home office and they were asking some documents. I have sent them the documents. Anybody knows how long it would take to decide the visa? My son has also applied with me and after one month he will go to India and can not return as his would expire next month and he would not have any visa to reurn. Can anybody help how to contact liverpool office and ask for any home office letter so that he can come back to UK again if visa status is not cleared by then?
