Apply for ILR (LR) or Extend T2G, then Apply for ILR (5 yrs)

Post by kevb2014 » Mon Jan 26, 2015 8:39 pm

This post is on behalf of a close friend of mine.

He came to the UK on 25 Jan 2005 with entry clearance as a student. His visa was extended on several occasions until now. His last grant of leave was T2G aproved in 2012 and will expire in Apr 2015. His concern is that he has been travelling a lot on business trips (just over 1300 days) in the last 10 yrs and is rightly worried about meeting the requirements for ILR via the long residency route.

He has been adviced to extend his T2G and once approved, he can then try his luck submitting an application for ILR (LR). In case his ILR is refused, he can then apply for ILR under the 5 yrs route once he's eligible in 2017. It'll surely cost him a lot more money but it's a safer option.

What would be your take on this approach?
