Hi,

I understand for minors, we need to submit photo copies of all required documents. However, it is not very clear that documents to signed by any one of the parents or both parents to be signed else a thumb impression of the kid is required?

My son is 4 years old now. Could you please guide us.

Many Thanks, Awaiting your reply.

Which document?

If you meant signing photo copies then it is only required for when you are making postal application. If you are making postal application then I am sure one of you can attest it.

If you meant Part A of form then you need thumb impression of your kid.

If you meant Part B of form then both parents need to sign.

Reading this will help.

Hi,

When I applied for my 10 year old son, We both parent attested the photocopy as it is parents responsibility for minor. However, the thumb impression is required in Part A where, the space is given below photograph. Also as suggested, Part B should be signed by both the parents.

Hi all,

I am making family application, myself and spouse. Do I need to carry marriage certificate? My wife has always used her maiden name, didn't change her surname. Her passport has my name as spouse. For any reason, do I still need to carry Marriage Certificate?

Thanks,
Rajesh

Hi Rajesh,

That is fine, Yes , your children application need to be supported with your marriage certificate. As long as your both passport hold the spouse name this highlights the relationship.

In my case, My wife surname was change after the marriage, but marriage certificate hold her maiden name which is quite normal. After marriage I applied for her renew passport for getting her surname and address change. Hence our both passport holds the spouse name and her name on the passport appears with my surname.

In summary you need to give your marriage certificate to support your children application.

Hope this helps!!!

My appointment was 12:15PM, it took only 10 minutes to handover application. They only check original passport surrender certificate - this is displayed on their counter as notice.

They need only one photograph pasted on application form, returned second photograph.

I was carrying copy of surrendered passport but he returned it. Documents I submitted:
A. Part A and B of application. I didn't give them last 2 pages containing instructions
B. One photograph pasted on application form
1. Copy of Naturalization certificate
2. Copy of British passport
3. Copy of surrender certificate on Indian passport

Paid fees in cash. Other available option is Postal order.

Photograph:
51mm x 51mm - My actual photo was 52mm x 52 mm, application form says 50 x 50 but the square they have on form is of size 52 x 52. Hopefully, this will not delay my application.

The guy on the counter did confirm, I can send just on self addressed SD envelope to collect 2 OCI (myself and spouse).

I was also carrying original of:
Naturalization certificate
British Passport
Surrendered Indian passport

Nothing was required!!

If you have never been to HCI, it is only 5 mins walk from Temple tube station.

I will post my timelines when I have received final OCI.

Hope this helps.

This is not the thread for discussing timelines of surrendering Indian passport. There was no need to quote my post as both posts are one of after other.

Please check out the sticky post meant for timelines for Surrender of Indian passport.

Short answer - 4 to 5 working days.

It takes roughly 2 weeks time. Mine was done in two weeks for end to end process in Dec, however, I have submitted the application in person at vfs.

Hi All/Gurus,

I have applied for OCI for my son (minor, 3 years old) on 9/11/2014 by post to London. But they have acknowledged application on 19/11/2014.
After that no progress till now as of 28/1/2015.
I could not reach them over the phone by 02076323070 and 02076323170, so i have mailed them to info@hcilondon.in on 19/1/2015 some one replied saying thumb impression missing and asked to scan and send. I have taken my son's thumb impression on the application but can't understand why they asked me to send it again. same day someone else replyed with photo requirements pdf file with no message. so thought photo is not satisfying the requirements. Actually photo was taken by a professional in Jesseps and printed photo in specified standards.
so i have sent same day my son's photo and scanned copies of my son's thump impression (in jpg and pdf format) and asked to acknowledge that they received what they required and sufficeient to progress his application no one responding, i tried calling them above numbers i cant reach them always busy. i even tried at 9:30 AM and no one answering.
i mailed them 5 times but no answer so far and its been more than a week after my first email.
could some one help me how to contact them, did any one had this kind of the problem?

Hi DKS,

Can you please let me know what additional doc did you submit for your UK born child
1. Copy of Full Birth Certificate.
2. Copy of the UK passport.

I am making an join application so will the child still need this additional parent's Indian cancelled passport's also?
Another query is does all the copies need to be self attested?
Hi garry,

Sorry, my child is India Born, possibly for UK born, they might need UK birth certificate.
Not sure (I have not read about UK born child) but my guess is yes (Please verify as this is my guess), child still need additional parent 's Indian cancelled passport first and last page self attested copy only.

Hi DKS,

Did you submit an OCI application for an under-16 years old?
Did you require the child's birth certificate, if she/he is Indian born?

Thanks

Thanks Rajesh

So appears me and wife qualify as she was born India. From the documents looks like birth certificate won't be enough as asking for Indian passport details which we don't have.

Also would I need to send marriage certificate to show link between me and husband.

Can you please let us know on what basis you both qualify for OCI? I know you said your wife was born in India but you didn't say what was her parents' nationality then?

Marriage certificate is required for two cases: 1) when applying for children based on parents' background. 2) when wife has changed her surname due to marriage.

They are not reachable on phone nor they respond to emails. Now I am close to 2.5 months waiting for OCI for a case with no complexity. Where as HCI London timelines are less than a month including passport delivery. What do you people suggest how I can check with them whereabouts of my passport?

Visiting from here is a 4 hour journey one way!! And I am sure they may not be very helpful or handover my Passport to me and will ask me to wait for the returns post. So I was thinking if there is any better way or any complaint number. All the numbers on the site are unanswered.
