Job Description
Location:Reading
The Customer Engineer will focus on providing technical phone support to our customer base. This includes answering incoming problem calls, collecting and tracking information and details of the problem, trying to resolve the issues and escalating the calls to advanced personnel if necessary.
Required Skills
• Must have expert knowledge of Unix-based Operating Systems
• Windows Operating System proficiency is required
• Technical degree is a plus, but not required
• Multi-lingual skills are a strong plus
• Strong customer relations skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skill
• Multi-task capable with strong time management skills
• Technical experience in the following areas is required.
o Mastery level knowledge of Unix/Linux operating system and its components. This includes troubleshooting via the logs, understanding how to acquire crash dumps and application dumps, network transport optimization, and understanding firewall configurations.
o Understanding of at least two of the following is expected.
Solaris
HPUX
AIX
RedHat
SuSe
Windows Server
o Strong understanding of Unix Command Line
o Networking and troubleshooting connectivity, name resolution, and performance based issues with OS and/or hardware.
o Strong understanding of Unix/Linux clusters, with installing and configuring software.
o Strong understanding of Unix device management (tape and disk)
o Knowledge of system recovery methods such as NIM(AIX), Jumpstart (Solaris), and/or Ignite (HPUX)
• Technical experience in any of the following areas is needed:
o Strong understanding of Oracle and RMan
o Strong understanding of SAP Oracle & MAXDB
o Strong understanding of Lotus Notes for Unix
o Understanding of DB2, Sybase, Informix, and MySQL
o Understanding of data archiving solutions and HSM technology on Unix/Linux.
o Familiarity with EMC Celerra and NTAP platforms a plus.
o Specializing in snapshot capable hardware, such as EMC, HDS, or NetApp managed by the Unix/Linux OS
o Specializing in NetApp hardware and OS, working with features such as SnapMirror and SnapVault with Unix/Linux clients.
o Understanding of Unix/Linux replication technology and familiarity with other products such as Veritas Volume Replicator, EMC Replication Manager, or any other replication product
• Previous Experience with Backup software such as Veritas, Arcserve, or Legato.
• Understanding of backup theory and design.
• Understanding of HSM theory and design.
