Tier 5 Religious Worker to Tier 4 Student Visa

Is it possible to move from a Tier 5 Religious Worker Migrant Visa to a Tier 4 Student Visa? My visa expires in October, but I will be returning to the USA in August and am planning on attending university in the UK Fall 2015. Is it possible to apply for a student visa whilst I'm home in America even if my current visa has not expired? Likewise, could I apply while still in the UK?
