Partner visa: how long can go outside Australia during visa?

I would like to get a partner visa for my European Union partner.

One question I have is whether we can enter Australia for, say, two weeks, then leave for a year, and come back maybe later and the visa will still be valid?

Or does the visa expire a certain time period while outside Australia?
