Unix Support Engineer

Job Description
We have an outstanding career opportunity for a Support Engineer. This role requires someone who is technically savvy and enjoys the challenge of problem solving, as a Support Engineer within the industry leading company support team. The successful candidate will provide technical support for the company suite of data protection and information management software, with a focus on Unix-flavoured platforms and databases. This position is based in Reading, involving phone and remote support of our ever-increasing customer base, as well as our field engineers, in heterogeneous environments. As well as being a technically proficient individual, this position also requires the candidate to have exceptional time management and organizational skills as a number of tasks often need to be completed simultaneously and in a timely fashion.
Position Responsibilities include:

• Ability to use troubleshooting and diagnostic skillsets in complex and dynamic environments.
• Able to maintain professionalism whilst under pressure.
• Proven experience providing 2nd/3rd line technical support.
• Exceptional customer relations skills.
• Technical experience in the following areas is required:-
o Expert level knowledge of Unix-flavoured operating systems and its components
o Strong understanding of databases
o Networking and troubleshooting connectivity, name resolution, and performance based issues with OS and/or hardware
o Good understanding of Unix/Linux clusters, with installing and configuring software
o Solid understanding of Unix device management (tape and disk)
• Advanced administration and troubleshooting of Windows environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skill.
Position Requirements include:
• Strong understanding of Oracle and RMAN
• Strong understanding of SAP Oracle & MAXDB
• Strong understanding of Lotus Notes for Unix
• Understanding of DB2, Sybase, Informix, and MySQL
• Understanding of data archiving solutions and HSM technology
• Familiarity with EMC Celerra and NTAP platforms
• Specializing in snapshot capable hardware, such as NetApp, EMC, HDS.
• Understanding of Unix/Linux replication technology.Multi-lingual skills are a strong plus
