Acquiring a Lithuanian citizenship

Post by gbentor » Thu Jul 02, 2015 4:43 pm

My grandfather was Lithuanian and left the country around 1932. I have most of his documents, including one that says he his no longer a citizen (those basterds... haha). Anyway, someone told me that if the person left Lithuania on his own will before 1940 and lost his citizenship he is no longer eligable to have it back, nor does his offsprings.
Does anyone knows something about it?

many thanks,
Gur

It would appear that since your grandparents left Lithuania in 1932 on their own will, they basically abandoned any rights in lithuania, and you wont be eligible either.

But it would still be worth giving it a shot and claim/apply for lithuanian citizenship by producing all the documents that you have. One you claim/apply, then only you will find out for sure.

BTW, I am not an expert on lithuanian citizenship.
