Surrinder Singh. Next Steps?

Post by vweeks » Wed Oct 07, 2015 10:54 am

Hello

I arrived in Ireland with my British spouse 1 month ago.

Yesterday, we went to the Social Services office in Sligo to apply for a PPS number but according to the lady we spoke to in order to receive a PPS number I would need to have a GNIB card.

We honestly have no idea what is the next step in the immigration process.

Do I need to go to the local gardai and register?

Do I need to send in the EU1 form with supporting documents even though I do not have a PPS number?

When do I apply for a PPS number?

My visa expires December 5th and we really do not want any issues and would like to have everything in order before then. We would like to leave for the UK by February

ANY help is apreciated.

Yes I applid to accompany my eu spouse. It would have taken 2-3 weeks but because I was denied a visa to the UK there was a delay in my decision. It took almost 6 weeks to get a decision. I am a Liberian national

I am surprised  why do they need GNIB card to apply for the pps number? what documents did you bring with you when you go there? and don't worry you have 2 months left so you can prepare for your EU1 without any issue :)

I brought all the necessary documents (tenant agreement, job offer). She said to bring my GNIB card and passport on my appointment. I said I did not have a GNIB card. She said I would need to go to garda and apply for Immigration Certificates of Registration.

I am really confused. Is it necessary to get a pps number before applying for a resident card through Eu1 form? And do I need to register with garda now or do I do that after as well?

Thank you. I have been following this for reference; however now that I am at the PPS step...I am being told that our joint tenancy agreement and passports are not sufficient.

They can't refuse your pps application as you brought all the required documents, and did they accept your british spouse pps application?

Oh I see But pps number is not compulsory for the EU1 application, they refused our pps application 3 times :) that is how they are, so you can still make your application without it..

No I didn't and it's not like that, you know once you send your eu1 application they will return your original documents and a letter to take garda for registration (GNIB card). without their letter you won't be able to get GNIB card :) so not to worry about it and prepare your documents for your application..

Hi VWeeks,

PPSN is just a formal document used by the Treaty rights Department as an item to show that you have been working / claiming any funds from the state.
However; the welfare department nor the PPS issuance officer can ask for a document showing your immigration status/ visa for the issuance of a PPSN.
If they do and refuse to grant you a PPSN, "POLITELY" request them to give you the reason in writing. Once you have the reasons of refusal you can complain against this document/ letter.
Leading to which they will invite you over and issue a PPSN.

Regarding your EU1 application, you can send the application without the PPSN.
I have noticed that you've stated that you have a job offer. How did that come into place?
As you'd need "Working permission" before starting employment in Ireland.
I would suggest that you send the application and then, when you receive the letter/ application acknowledgement from the treaty rights desk, which may state your working rights if any, would be able to undertake the job offer.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Thank you,
Regards,

Aaron.

Regarding your EU1 application, you can apply for that without the PPSN.
