Old Green PR card is it valid

Post by begemot » Tue Jul 26, 2016 6:54 pm

Hi All,

Can you please tell me if the old Green PR card issued by UKVI in 2006 is still valid and can be used to obtain Naturalisation?

I have used the same document this year along with P45/P60 to obtain my new born daughter's British passport (got it after 4 weeks of applying).

I am EEA national living in the UK since 2005, applied for WRS within a month of coming in (refreshed each time I had changed employment and WRS was required), applied for PR card a year after - obtained in Jun 2006. Passed Life in the UK March 2016 and English in April 2016. Employed continiuously since 2005.

Please let me know if you need more details.

Thx in advance... b

Does it have an expiry date on the card (for the card)?

You may have to look into renewing it as I suspect the cards expire after 10 years; (ofcourse the status doesn't except due to absence of 2 years).

So theoretically I can't apply for Naturalisation until I get the card renewed. And if I applied the application would get rejected and I would lose the money right?

Depends what month it was issued in back in 2006.

Failing to naturalise is certainly costly and DCPR is a snip at £65.

Ok so DCPR for 65£ is the first step then 7 weeks wait.
Can I apply right after or do I have to wait for a year from the date on the new PR?

May be more than 7 weeks wait for DCPR.

But no need to wait 12 months before shooting for citizenship as your status was acquired more than 12 months ago.

That is, assuming you haven't enjoyed a 2 year absence from UK since 2006.
And all other requirements have been/ can be met.

As I mentioned no breaks in employment or stay.
I will fill EEA PR3 then and whatever I have to.
Do I need to confirm anything with HO before applying for Naturalisation as I hear stories that some HO agents might interprete rules differently ie. count 1yr from date of issuing PR?

If they do so then file a case.

Suggest apply to naturalise via NCS who can check date of PR as recorded in HO CID databank.

Just to mention for the sake of others... If you have any of your older documents you will need DCPR documents done first as they will not accept your old PR. Good thing is that they will refund your Application fee - spoken with HO to find out.

@noajthan: you were right that if you prove 5yr + 1 year of Residence on DCPR you can apply for Naturalisation right after DCPR comes back (up to 7 weeks).

Thx a lot for all the input guys

Yep, we don't just make this stuff up; at least I don't.

The other way to avoid a wait, free of immigration time restrictions, is to marry a British spouse,

Good luck.

Hi All,

So finally got my EEA04 document after almost 4 months of waiting. Some questions I have before I re-do my Citizenship application:

1) My National ID card expired while at HO. Do I still have to send it as I have used it to get Life In The UK?
Do I need to renew thre document as I don't want to send them my passport due to nature of my job that requires occasional buisness trips abroad?

2) Can I apply without waiting 1 year (EEA04 issues on 8th November) bearing in mind that I have met settlement criteria over 5 years ago?

Thanks in advance,

B
