Please post your timelines if you've applied in 2016 only. You should use the format below just to keep a neat tracker of applications for this year.

First Acknowledgment letter 28/09/2015
2nd stage letter dated 23/10/2015
Approval: Waiting.

THE INFORMATION BELOW SHOULD BE USEFUL/HELPFUL TO SOME OF OUR MEMBERS HERE ON THIS FORUM (PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL BUT SOMEONE'S CANDID OPINION BASED ON EXPERIENCE HANDLING APPLICATIONS FOR OVER FIFTY FAMILY, FRIENDS ETC.)

Simple time line that always work : (Following is for normal 5 years cases : Spouses of Irish subjects get it quicker than rest but not ALWAYS )

First letter / acknowledgement = 3 days to 2 weeks maximum . ( usually 1 week )

Second Stage Letter = 4 week to 8 weeks ( usually 6 weeks ) Will increase by a few days if they asked for anything .

Now is the stress stage : Approval letter

Look at date of your second stage letter ... Add 3 months 25 Days . ( Give or take 5 days ) You should have an approval letter . If not you been naughty somewhere .

in the waiting time simply email them if you are not sure about how is your application progressing .

The above include

Garda checks = 4 weeks
Revenue / Benefit / Social checks = 1 to 2 days each ( usually 1 day )
Advance Stage 3 to 6 weeks ( usually 4 )
Minister office = 3 to 4 weeks ( usually 3 )

Does Benefits/ Social of any kind delays you application ===== No
Do they give approval while you are on benefits / social welfare or were in last 3 years ===== Yes

Traffic and other offences delays = Not at all if you have not gone to court .

Court appeared and cleared or found guilty or you went guilty yourself or what ever the case : Delay 3 to 6 months in approval on top of normal time above . ( This applies even if cases was strck off or you were fined and paid it )

Not paid fines / unknown fines etc = Can be deferred for 1 year by minister ( Reapply after 1 year ) 50% of cases .

Away for more than 6 weeks = No problem as far as you declare with a valid reason .

What to avoid : Solicitors esp Trayers & Company , brophy etc Department delays the cases as they believe you have something serious to hide / fight for . Otherwise why will you use a solicitor for a so simple application . This is what they think now so don't gun me down for that , take your own decisions . Nearly 20 cases who applied through solicitors are delayed for me from 1 month to 6 months . ~ SOURCE: bstar

Hi can you explain this to me, i applied 2013 and on 2014 my application was differed that minister has differed his decision till 2016 august which is 24 month for me to be of good character, i was in court in 2012 due to an asult case. 28 june 2016 a letter was sent to me to recommerce my application. i have been of good character since then, i fowarded document they needed the next day. my question is will they make a decion in this august as they said

what was the out come from court?

from my best knowledge id say if the out come was negative but court gave you the decistion already you should explain all the results and attach all court file with the new application.
now if they ask you the previous application still on process and u did send the papers what were you asked for you should be fine.
however you have a clear ground that they reffers you about ur case and they gave a time frame till ths month.
now if you can apply for a new application or if they ask for documents based on previous application you just provide and give them a proper explanation.
based on previous cases they say each application is individual..

by the what letter you did send them recently?

i dont need to make a fresh application my approval decision was deffered for 24 month to be of good character, that the minister would make a decision in 2016 august,. they recommerce my application in june this year by asking for extra documents just normal documents such as if i have any traffic offence and paid i should faword prove, for my application to be process to the minister and other simply doc which i did so am still waiting for approval.

To be honest In my opinion is, you already did wait for minister decitionbecause they did hold your case for two years.
In a way u did your time by waiting last 2 years if you know the meaning.
Now they asking for further documents as formal query other than that they will check if you did any sort of
crime or any critical erros in this state.
as you said u have been quite natural last 2 years so finger crossed and for the results and ofcourse they will make a decision either way.

good part 19th sept there oath..hopefully they give you the approaval.

N.B 1. To get it right you have to be good character
2.and you should not be burden of govt like if your working and paying taxes.

Time line : Application sent 12/08/2016

I emailed the department after not receiving an acknowledgement letter after 5 weeks , their reply was

Hi

Please be advised that this office is currently processing new applications
received around the beginning of August. If you have not heard anything
further from this office within the next 2 weeks come back to me and I will
follow it up again for you.

Any one else in the similar situation , my application is based on 5 year residence , I am still married to an Irish citizen and my daughter is Irish as well . Good luck to everyone in the same boat

Ps : I have no offences fulltime student ( undergraduate)

applied 20/08/2016 have not received my passport back nor any acknowledgement
though im relief to find that im not the only one.

my app was based on 5 year eu fam
i applied under the new form 5.5 aug 2016 with original passport

Hi there, it can vary hugely.

There was a new form introduced in August which required original passports to accompany any application. I applied on the 8th of September and got my acknowledgement and documents returned on the 22nd of September (less than two weeks).

I think however that it can depend case-to-case. I'd follow up with them. Normally, for applications where you send the original documents (passports) they're returned quite quickly.

hello all

I applied on the 24th Aug with new form still haven't got my passport back or any acknowledgement.
based on stamp4 eu fam 5 year.
a week ago email them they said 10 days if I still don't herd anything from them email them again and they will follow up.

anybody in similar situation ?

I received my acknowledgement letter today ,it took 7 weeks

Application date : 12/08/2016
(received on the 15/08/2016)
Acknowledgement letter received 27/09/16

Waiting on the next stage fingers crossed

man im glad to here that u got ur passport back
so il just wait for another week or so i applied in the last week of august.
few questions for ya
did they ask u for extra docs?
did u apply with new form and sent original passport?
u had psc card when u applied ?

i wrote the citizenship office this morning and this the reply.
what do you guys think, advice me and how long do you think it will take for a decision to be made.
