NZ student visa

Applying for NZ student visa.

been denied visa for UK for (hiding information about warning from police )

NZ visa application requires you to state any country previous visa refusal . can someone guide me if UK refusal would affect my NZ student visa? secondly i know its not a good idea to hide UK refusal however, if i do does these agencies cross check the info ?
