Indian Birth Certificate for UK Born Child - Process

Post by uk121 » Fri Nov 25, 2016 3:39 pm

Hello All,

I am sure many of users earlier shared the process for applying the Indian Birth Certificate for UK born baby. I applied it today and thought of sharing the latest process...

Pre-Requisite
1. You should have your UK birth certificate

Step 1:
1. Go to http://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/
2. Click apply online
3. Select the last option "Registration of birth of a minor child at an indian consulate under section 4(1) of the citizenship act, 1955"
4. Complete the form (note down the temporary application number above, so that you can revisit and update)
5. Upload the baby photo (dont worry about the background) / signature (size as mentioned in the requirement section) and submit the form (Review the form carefully, as it cant be modified once submitted)
6. Once you submit it, you will get a MHA File No, note down this number
7. Now, upload the other documents (Parents passport, baby birth certificate, marriage certificate)
8. Print the application
9. Download and complete the declaration form.( i cant find this online, but they told me it is there in site, you need to complete this & should be signed by father/mother) (For me, they gave it in counter to fill-up)
9. Now book the appointment - https://www.visaservices.co.in/IHC-UK-A ... eUVLcp3A4=

Step 2: Visit HCL

***Carry the below documents***All the documents (except application) should be self attested by the parents
1. Application form (which you submitted in step1)
2. Declaration form (Photo of mother & father has to be pasted here)
3. Passport copies of parents (Original & Copy)
4. Visa copies of parents
5. Passport photo of Baby / Father / Mother
6. Address proof (license, council bill)
7. Marriage certificate (original & Copy)
8. UK Birth certificate of the baby (Original & Copy)
9. Next day delivery registered postal cover (if you dont want to collect in person)
10. £17 Fee (carry exact change)

Few facts :-
1. its all appointment based, no walkin allowed
2. Mandatory original documents - Passport / UK Birth certificate / Marriage certificate
3. They have the provision to take xerox / passport photos, just incase if you need
4. One parent is enough to submit the application (baby is not required)
5. You should receive the birth certificate in 10 working days, if there is any issue , they will email the reason & the next steps.
6. As far as i have seen, people are very friendly and helpful (unless, you are requesting something which is beyond their control). One person will verify all your documents before you reach the counter
7. I used online sites to join pdf / resize pictures
8. Total process took 20mins

Hope this helps...

9. Now book the appointment - https://www.visaservices.co.in/IHC-UK-A ... eUVLcp3A4=
Thanks for the information. How to book this appointment? The link doesn't work and checking vfs or other websites is so painful as it keeps taking me round and round without actually giving any option to book an appointment.

Btw, Bristol consular office would be my nearest option.

Please help.
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

The details are given pretty clear above.

I would like to add if you want to collect in person from the High Commission of India, London. Then you need to collect the certificate between 4:00 and 4:45 PM (Monday-Friday).
