Changing to another university during my PhD

Post by pinkcarrot » Sat Dec 10, 2016 12:24 am

Hi everyone,
I am changing my UK university for my PhD. I had enrolled at university A in 2014 but now due to certain issues I am changing to university B.

I have certain concerns -
1) Will I have to leave the UK and go back to my home country to apply for a fresh UK visa application? As I will be starting from scratch at this new university

2)Will the 8 year time cap apply to me?
I have already done my MSc here in the UK - 1 year 4 months
I started my PhD in 2014 - 2 years 4 months now
So a total time period used up till January 2017 would be - 3 years 8 months
and my new PhD program is 4 years (as stated on the offer letter)

3) Will academic progression apply to me?
As I am moving from one MPhil/PhD program to another within the UK

Any help/advice will be much appreciated!

Yes and yes. Your CAS cannot confirm Academic Progression, and you are not on the list of exceptions. See the Tier 4 Policy Guidance, pages 21-22.

No. See immigration rule 245ZV(gb):

(gb) If the applicant has completed a course leading to the award of a PhD, postgraduate research qualification or a Masters degree by research in the UK, the grant of entry clearance the applicant is seeking must not lead to the applicant having spent more than 8 years in the UK as a Tier 4 (General) Migrant, or as a Student.
