Visiting Irealnd on PR form UK

Post by buktais » Wed Dec 14, 2016 4:00 pm

Hello, can a nonEU husband who hols UK permanent resident card (sticker in passport) travel to IRL with his EU five with no visa?

Note: nonEU national holds PR which does not state EEA Family member or similar wording. It's an old type of PR.

Hi Buktais,

A permanent resident card does not entitle you to travel to Ireland unless it states you can travel with a Union Citizen. This is given under Article 10 of Directive 2004/38/EC.

If you contact the Irish embassy in London they will tell you same, and ask to to contact the British Home office to confirm if this PR is under Article 10.

Hope that helps.
