This is my experience, almost 3 months to get OCI granted based on spouse already holding OCI. I would suggest if no update after 42 days email info.london@hcilondon.in and keep chasing them. after 2 emails (10 days) i got a response saying it was granted.

Submitted at Goswell Rd, London

Applicant Name XXX
File Acknowledgment Number YYY
Date Of Acknowledgment 09-SEP-2016
Registration Status at Mission LONDON
OCI- Number ZZZ
Documents Printing Status PROCESSED On 06-DEC-2016
Dispatched From MOIA (OCI ) NEW DELHI On 06-DEC-2016
Document received At LONDON On 06-DEC-2016
Passport Submitted (today) 08-DEC-2016

Told 7-10 days to get it in post, though having read some posts could be over 10 days which is not good for me as I travel on the 21st Dec. Though I am hoping it comes sooner like the person who got it in about 6 days. Fingers crossed or will be very expensive holiday to change flights and miss out on hotel stays.

Good luck all!
Final Update:
Passport Submitted 08-DEC-2016 @ 9.30am
Passport/OCI Received 15-DEC-2016 @ 3.00pm

Much Relief!!!

Hi All, should there be an OCI stamp in the actual British passport also? I don't have one. I just have the separate OCI passbook. I know my wife who got her OCI a while also has a page in her passport with the OCI stamp. I'm hoping someone can confirm it's no longer supplied/needed in the passport also.

Thanks

No stamps on British Passport. Just that book. Remember if you change passport, OCI will be cancelled automatically and required to reapply again.

If the British passport expires and needs to be renewed does that mean we need to reapply for OCI again?

Correct... Incase if you lose your passport, change your passport, OCI is invalid. You have let the Indian EMbassy know by just filling a form and paying £18.

http://www.vfsglobal.com/India/UK/OCI.html

£18.00 (£16+£2) for changing any details in the card and transferring visa to the New Passport. [Procedure: online through Miscellaneous registration].

Re issue of OCI is not mandatory for applicants aged between 21 to 50 years.

It's mandatory for children every time they renew their passports like every 5 years.

So if I understand clearly in case British passport expires say before reaching age of 50 then I can still travel on the basis of the OCI booklet issued with that British passport number. I will need to carry the expired passport. And before reaching the age of 50 I need to reapply for OCI? is this correct?

Yes, that is correct!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you even need old passport because they have stopped affixing sticker and all you need to show is OCI card/booklet with valid passport at the time of travel.

try to call the VFS helpline and also you can email Belfast consulate.Try to email and chase them before tomorrow as Saturday to Tuesday is a complete shut down. 30th Dec should be okay. Generally speaking, You should recieve the passport in 7 days. Given it is Xmas time add few more days. Keep tracking your prepaid envelope.

Hi All,

I submitted my passport today for collecting the OCI. I have two questions:
- When can I expect to receive my OCI booklet and passport? I know the official guidance says 7-10 working days. But how long has it taken for people on an average. I am due to travel on 29th January and I am feeling slightly nervous with the timelines.

- Will I get a sticker in my British passport or is it just the OCI booklet?

Thank you for your help!

Hi GB85,

You will get your passport and OCI booklet back within the timeline given 7-10 working days. It may come quicker, but it's all subject to how busy VFS are. You will be sent emails and text messages (if you requested this paid service from VFS), so you will know when they have posted your passport and OCI booklet, so keep any eye out for this.

They no longer place the stickers in the British passport, so it's now just the OCI booklet.

Thank you! I was slightly concerned that they gave me no tracking number etc. But it is good to know that I will get the SMS etc. - I have paid for the service while making my initial application. :) Will wait for the SMS then!
