All those(HSMP/Tier1) searching/found jobs in SAP Post here!

Post by December31 » Wed Apr 30, 2008 8:37 pm

Dear All,

I would like to share my experience in job search and encourage others to do the same. This may help us track the job market and see how things are going in general.

I landed here in London a month ago on HSMP. I have 4.5 years of experience in SAP ABAP in Big MNC in India.

Finding it difficult to get job interviews here, I only had 2 so far. Most of them ask for UK experience, and my CV is usually not shortlisted. On an average there are 1 or 2 jobs posted everyday on SAP ABAP, market seems to be slow if not completely dry.

The challenge is
1. Convincing myself that 'if wait long enough and believe in my abilities, I should make it'.
2. Staying away from my family till I succeed here.

Hi,

I am in a similar situation. I have 3 years experience in SAP Portals. I am getting calls from recruitment consultants, they say we will speak to the client and get back to you. Most of them are not arranging interviews.

I had 3 interviews so far, but i don't have any offers.

I also think the job market is slow.

Well, things have changed in UK. You would have been in great demand probably 5-6 years ago when there was a severe shortage of IT skilled personnel here.

Now there are lots of applications pouring through for a vacancy. Recruiters can afford to pick and choose. The market is very competetive.

IT Market

Yes, you are correct.

If i go to monster uk and search with key word ABAP, there are 57 jobs results, most of the job requirements are so high end, only 4 or 5 suit to my profile. All are single vacancy jobs.

If i go to monster India and search with key word ABAP, there are 566 jobs results, most of the job requirements are so basic, 300 of them suit to my profile. Important thing is most of the 566 jobs are mutiple vacances.

So, now we know where all the jobs went to, back home.

But I also see hunderds of more jobs for C++,Java and .NET, but for ABAP there are in tens. So, may be it depends on how specialised our fields are I guess.

Hi,
I'm a functional consultant working in Plant maintenance module(PM).

Currently I'm at India and per week getting atleast 2 calls from consultants, even got a offer in Wales last month.
But unfortunately could not make it up due to my personal reasons. :(

But right now most of them are asking for UK experience !!!

Anyone looking for SAP Functional roles facing the same, pls share your experiences.

Thanks,
Harisha

UK Experience

Post by December31 » Sun May 04, 2008 4:27 pm

I have 4.4 years SAP ABAP experience in MNCs in India, almost every Placement Agent who called me asked for UK experience, they are discouraged when I say I don't have it. That is the number one hurdle I faced so far.
