Apply US visitor visa from UK - Indian passport

Hi,

I am having Indian Passport with only first name: Sushma
Surname: <Blank>
I am living in UK having work permit visa with name: Sushma Sushma
Now, I am looking to apply for US visitor Visa from UK. Seems like I can't specify FNU (First Name Unknown).
Please suggest what should I do?

Update passport to contain full name.

I am really not looking to get my passport updated with Name: Sushma Sushma.
Moreover, can I apply for name update in UK?

I don't think I will face the problem of not enough ties. I have permanent job and family in UK.

Any other way of handling it?
