Working in NZ with Oz residency

Hi,
I'm just starting the emigration process.
Ideally i want to go to NZ but have found that Oz is easier to get into (no job offer needed) and so have been to see an emigration agent to check that i can use Oz as a 'back door' to NZ to which the agent said yes.
On visa 176, i can go to Oz and after 4 weeks of being in Oz, can go to NZ and look for work.

Can anyone back this up?
And does the 2 year rule apply if i do this - ie-after 2 years of working in NZ, i could apply for indefinite leave to remain?
