Non EU married to EU Citizen staying in Ireland

Post by rds_mru » Thu Aug 17, 2006 10:05 pm

Hello
I wonder if anybody been in similar situation or can help me?
I am from Mauritius and i just been married to a polish citizen. I am under a work permit in ireland since Jan 2006 but i quit my job few days ago as i was not getting along with my employer. My work permit expires in December. I been told I can stay in Ireland as long as my permit is valid even i am not working. My questions are:
Can i continue to stay in Ireland and work after my work permit expires under the condition i been married to EU citizen?
What type of stamp will i get Stamp 1 again or Stamp 4?
Will i have to go back to Mauritius and apply to live and work in Ireland?

Thanks for your reply in advance.

Hi,
I dont know that why i was asking for help on this forum. Some1 in first place told me that i should have applied for a working visa and not work permit as i am an engineer and a non-visa require national, no1 replied me yet.

Which country you from?

What you?

Hi, thanks for the reply. Did you do that? Because i read on the forum somewhere people been waiting over six month to get that stamp and they had to go back to their country of origine to apply which i think is not fair.
My wife works in the banks, she is on her annual leave and wont be back until 2 weeks, so i need to know what to do b4 she is back.
I am getting job proposition everywhere but work permit preventing me of getting them and some of the employers id told me that is is a too lenghthy process.
And the thing is I need money, so if i have to go back to Maurtius and then come back, wait six month, that will be a mess.

Hi johnsienk,
The process is not quite so simple or quick as in the UK. Read http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=10840 for more details
