Required Documents?

Post by fantomas » Fri Mar 15, 2013 12:43 am

Hello All,

I want to apply for the British Nationality. I currently hold the Yemeni passport & nationality. I was born outside the UK & EU on the 13th of July 1983, and I have been to the UK before for visits when I was a kid.
My father (British Citizen) held a British passport (otherwise than by descent) before I was born. He had passed away last year. I have the following queries:
-What are the required documents for my application?
-How long will the process take if I applied (in person) at the home office in the UK as I might come for training but still not confirmed? and how long does it take if I applied by post online or through the British Embassy in my country?
Thank you very much and your help is truly appreciated.

If your father was British, then you are British (by decent). There is no need to register. Just to apply for a pasport.

You can either do it in the UK or by the British consulate abroad. The process can take 6 weeks (especially if you have not claimed your British nationality before and you suddenly show up as an adult). You will need proof of your identity and proof of your father's British nationality (birth certificate, passport etc).

Thank you very much Jambo.

Right now, I only have my dad's original british passport and his birth certificate. In addition to that, I have a copy of a letter from the home office to my deceased dad. Below is a link for the letter's photocopy:

Do I need anything else? Your help is truly appreciated. Thank you

Should be enough evidence I believe but as I said you should be prepared for a longer process and extra checks (because your claim now and not 30 years ago). It would be quicker to get it in the UK.
